Ben Woodward is one of the world's leading specialists in aquatic system engineering, environmental design and zoological enclosure development, with more than twenty years of professional experience across aquaculture, public aquaria, pet retail, zoological habitats and large-scale environmental projects.

 

As a director, designer and engineer, he has installed and developed aquarium systems, fish racks, budget and high-end aquatic systems, aquatic shop-fitting solutions, pet shop installations, reptile and mammal enclosures, zoo habitats, zebrafish research systems and university laboratory fit-outs.

A degree-level expert in marine and freshwater biology.

Ben holds a BSc (Hons) in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, a Degree in Fisheries Science, a National Diploma in Aquatics and Ornamental Fish Management (triple distinction), and multiple specialist certifications including fish diseases, pathogens, anatomy, physiology and fish biology. His academic foundations are supported by extensive hands-on experience in filtration engineering, life-support systems, bacterial ecology, surface-area-to-volume optimisation and environmental stability across a huge range of aquatic and semi-aquatic species.

Over two decades, Ben Woodward has led major projects across environmental engineering, aquaculture consultancy, high-end aquarium design, public aquarium development, luxury water features, wetlands, pond construction, fisheries management, river restoration and zoological enclosure design. His work includes designing Nigeria’s first public aquarium, advising governments in Africa on sustainable aquaculture, converting polluted Ghanaian mine systems into viable fish farms and delivering technical solutions for conservation, research institutions, FTSE 100 companies and large public bodies including the NHS and National Trust.

A respected media contributor and thought leader, Ben has been featured on Grand Designs (twice), BBC Countryfile, BBC Radio 4, BBC Sussex, Mid Sussex Radio and in over 200 national and international publications. He has spoken at the House of Lords on innovation and sustainability and addressed the United Nations on African aquaculture, environmental resilience and food security.

Ben is also a creative figure within the arts: he composes classical music for film and television, with compositions featured in global Netflix productions and major international advertising campaigns.

Ben has become recognised internationally as a multi-disciplinary expert in aquatic systems, zoo enclosure engineering, research facility design, environmental consultancy, product development and high-end aquarium installation. He is available worldwide for specialist consultancy, media commentary and investigative reporting on environmental, fisheries and aquaculture matters.
